What Is Debt and How Can It Be Managed?

Debt is unfortunately, a very common term these days. People usually get into debt through three different ways. These are:
  • Loans
  • Credit Cards
  • Store Cards
All of the above usually have interest rates added onto the amount that you owe already.
These rates are usually charged monthly, and very often, people only end up paying the minimum amount, which is usually only the price of the added interest. This makes paying off the debt almost impossible, and it also means that a lot of the time, you are actually adding to your debt instead of paying it off.

However, there are companies that offer something called a Debt Management Program. What is debt management? You may be thinking. Well, it is basically a program designed to help you get out of debt quicker, and in most cases, it lowers your monthly payments to your creditors. Debt Management Programs can offer the following help:
Credit/Debt Counselling
Credit counselling or debt counselling in general, is a service set up to help you decide what is best for you and to go through all your options. Offering guidance on where to turn, who to turn to and what you can do to get yourself out of debt, a lot of people consider debt counselling to be extremely helpful. They are there to help you understand everything better and to listen to your worries financially.

Credit and debt counselling can be provided free of charge in some debt management programs, but you will have to check with whichever company you sign up with, whether or not they actually do offer this service for free.
Help to Get Creditors off Your Back
Whichever Debt Management Company you decide to go with, all of them help to get creditors off your back. They stop harassing phone calls, nasty letters, and they do this by contacting the creditors and negotiating with them on your behalf. This provides so much relief to clients as so many people live in fear of the telephone ringing or the mailman dropping by.
Lowering Your Monthly Payments
Once you have determined how much you can pay to your creditors, the debt management programs inform the creditors with the final amount you are able to pay each month. This is usually significantly lower than what you are currently paying, which does make a lot of people better off each month.
Reduce Your Debt By Up To 50%
A lot of companies claim that they can cut your existing debt almost in half which means that it will take you less time to pay your debt completely off. Some companies claim they can rid you of your debts within 3-5 years which can be a huge weight lifted off your shoulders.

Overall, Debt Management Programs can be extremely helpful and can really help to take the stress off you. The only trouble is - what Debt Management Company should you go for?

All about Debt Management Companies

With so many Debt Management Companies out there, it is hard to know which ones to go for. There are two main types of Debt Management Programs, the first is a paid one, and the second is a non-profit one. So which one should you go for?
  • Non profit companies are companies which are free for their clients to use, and they get paid through creditors, businesses and individual donations. These programs are obviously people's first choice as they are free, but sometimes they do not offer all the services a paid company may do. For example, they may not offer credit counselling. They are also in high demand so you may not necessarily be taken on board with the company.
  • Paid companies generally apply to everyone and they usually charge monthly payments on top of your loan repayments. Your monthly repayments will still be lower, but you will now be paying the Debt Management Program's wages. Some companies may also charge a set up fee which is basically a fee to set up your account with them.
All companies are different, so it is always better to do your research before you decide which company to go with. Obviously a non-profit organisation would be more ideal, but if you cannot find one, there are some paid companies who only charge a very little amount each month.

Of course, you don't have to be in a serious amount of debt, to sign up with a Debt Management Program, all companies offering debt consolidation are there to help you financially, as long as you are in some kind of trouble. Whether you just really need to get your finances sorted out, or you really do not understand your finances at all, debt consolidation companies can help you.

Remember Debt Management Companies are there to relieve you of the stress from creditors, to lower your monthly payments, and to help you live a debt free life, in as short a time as possible. Thousands of people have been helped through the programs and you can be helped too. With so many Debt Management companies out there, you can no longer say 'What is Debt Management?'.
